Accompanied by the director general of research, Joan Gómez, the president of the Government of Catalonia, Quim Torra, visited on 30th November the company Rob Surgical in El Prat de Llobregat (Barcelona). The company designs and develops new robotic systems for minimally invasive surgery.

During the visit, the president and the director general of research attended a simulation of the Bitrack System carrying out a nephrectomy with Dr Lluís Peri of Barcelona's Hospital Clínic

"It is encouraging to see innovative companies such as Rob Surgical that are international right from the start. We hope to bring this technology to our hospitals in the near future," said Torra.

Jaume Amat, CEO of the company and president of CataloniaBio & HealthTech, along with two Rob Surgical senior management figures, Josep Amat and Alícia Casals, explained "we set out to make surgical robotics efficient, democratising precision surgery and putting it within the reach of the majority of hospitals”. The Bitrack System presents itself as an alternative to the Da Vinci robot from the USA.

The company currently has an investment round open to cover the last phase of the project (it has already raised 4 million euros). The team is made up of seven engineers with different specialities.

Representing CataloniaBio & HealthTech, Jaume Amat called for the acceleration of innovative public procurement so that hospitals have cutting-edge technology and Catalan companies that design it on-demand or to meet existing needs can be brought into the public health system.
