European Commission invites NEOS Surgery to share its innovation and funding experience

NEOS Surgery, a CataloniaBio & HealthTech member, is one of twenty technology transfer and investment organisations and companies chosen to participate in the Early stage financing of RTO spin-off companies event hosted by the European Commission (EC) to share their innovation and funding experience. The meeting was held on 7 March in the headquarters of EC in Brussels with representatives from the European Investment Fund (EIF-BEI), the Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, Tecnalia Ventures, German Tech Transfer Management GmbH, Yeda R&D Company Ltd. of the Weizmann Institute of Science (WIS), among others.

The presentations were introduced and moderated by Giancarlo Caratti, head of the EC Unit of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer .

In addition to exchanging best practices, “The EC’s goal was to get feedback for new research and innovation policies, such as the Horizon Europe programme that will be launched in 2021,” explains Lluís Chico, managing partner at NEOS Surgery and vice-president of CataloniaBio & HealthTech. Horizon Europe will be the successor of Horizon 2020, endowed with €100 billion.

NEOS Surgery develops, manufactures and markets innovative medical devices for neurosurgery, as well as other surgical fields. The company, located in Cerdanyola del Vallès and San Sebastian, was established in 2003 based on knowledge generated at the Eurecat and Tecnalia technology centres. In recent years, the company has achieved several milestones, including international commercialisation of its star product the Cranial LOOP and more than €10 million in funding
