Ten Catalan companies that develop innovative solutions for healthcare have been selected to participate in Phase II of BIOMED ScaleUP's first edition. This is the corporate programme promoted by CataloniaBio & HealthTech with collaboration from Lead To Change and support from ACCIÓ (Government of Catalonia).

  • AYO: designs, manufactures and markets smart medical devices. Since 2017, AYO, a wearable device based on blue light therapy, has been on the market, helping to improve sleep quality and performance (used by top athletes such as Novak Djokovic).

  • Kiversal: designs, manufactures and markets interconnectable medical devices using IoT technology. Its first product is the Audixi 10 digital audiometer, which facilitates clinical diagnosis and data integration in information systems and incorporates a more optimal calibration system.

  • MJN-neuro: the company was founded in 2014 after one of its founders had a daughter with epilepsy. It has just launched the mjn-SERAS wearable device, in the form of a headset, which is able to predict the risk of epileptic seizures.

  • Mowoot: this start-up, which grew out of Biocat's d·HEALTH Barcelona programme, has developed the first solution for chronic constipation. It is a device that is placed around the waist and stimulates intestinal transit (an alternative to enemas and laxatives).

  • Qrem: develops, manufactures and markets medical devices to deliver autologous regenerative therapies at a competitive cost. The first product marketed since 2019 is Qrem Cytokine for obtaining Cytokine-rich Autologous Serum (CRS) from the patient's own blood.

  • Qualud: digital innovation agency specialising in the healthcare sector. The company conceptualises and develops mobile applications, wearables, websites, databases and digitisation of healthcare processes.

  • Sensofar Medical: is the division of the Sensofar Group that develops, manufactures and markets implantable medical devices and innovative R&D solutions. The Sensofar Group operates in more than 30 countries through a network of partners and its own offices in Asia and the United States.

  • Sequentia: transforms data from omics into knowledge for companies and research centres in the healthcare, agriculture and environmental sectors through its SaaS bioinformatics service and customised programmes. It has customers in 65 countries and more than 1,200 SaaS users.

  • Vytrus: develops natural high value-added active ingredients on an industrial scale for cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies. It has 15 ingredients on the market and operates in more than 50 countries. It is in the process of international expansion.

  • WIVI Vision: has developed a system based on 3D visualisation that easily detects and trains children's visual impairment. It also provides a personalised plan for each patient. 20% of children with dyslexia and 30% with ADHD are misdiagnosed cases of visual impairment.

The aim of the 4-month programme is to help start-ups that have already overcome the early stage to grow. The objective of the programme is to help small consolidated companies that want to make a leap in corporate dimension, and medium-sized consolidated companies that are committed to growth in a specific area linked to innovation, processes or market diversification.

BIOMED ScaleUP is divided into a first phase with training sessions on corporate growth, which has been open to all businesses in the sector and in which 43 companies and organisations participated last February, and a second phase involving acceleration and personalised mentoring, which has been taken up by the 10 previously mentioned companies.

CataloniaBio & HealthTech recently presented its Strategic Plan 2021-2023, which revolves around four strategic focal points: strengthening the community, promoting a value-added cluster, projecting companies towards society, and growing as the sector’s business association and representative. The BIOMED ScaleUP programme is part of the strategic action to promote a value-added cluster.
