The first edition of the CataloniaBio & HealthTech BIOMED ScaleUP programme finished on 27 May with an in-person session, taking all COVID-19 precautions, where the 10 participating companies shared what they had learned after 36 hours of corporate growth training and personalised guidance over 4 months.

Company representatives, mainly CEOs and business development directors, gave BIOMED ScaleUP an excellent for its quality and usefulness for developing the company’s growth project.

They all agreed that the training sessions are useful for learning to grow in an organised manner, implementing specific management tools, avoiding common mistakes and being aware of the importance of good internal and external communication.

When asked about the individual guidance sessions, participants explained that BIOMED ScaleUP had helped them establish their strategic plan and that they have learned how to communicate it better. They also valued that they had detected their company’s capacities and opportunities, delved deeper into sales strategy and worked on various options for funding growth.

Ambition, humility and social responsibility

Xavier Marcet, programme mentor with Marc Fernández and Alejandro Santana of the Lead To Change consultancy, recognised the quality and commitment of all the companies that participated in this first edition of the programme.

One of Marcet’s tips was to focus on the ambition/humility binomial: “We have to have ambition to grow companies in the biomedicine and health sector, because Europe needs bigger projects than what we currently have in Catalonia, but we have to do it from a place of personal humility.” He also noted that “having a company in the 21st century is a great social responsibility. We have to grow by contributing corporate value, otherwise we won’t survive.”

CataloniaBio & HealthTech Secretary General Melqui Calzado noted, “We’re very satisfied with the results, as we’ve seen BIOMED ScaleUP combines theory and practice very well, focusing on a call to action and strategic decision-making.”

CataloniaBio & HealthTech promotes the BIOMED ScaleUP programme under the Strategic Plan 2021-2023 with support from ACCIÓ (Government of Catalonia).
